Artist, Italian thinker and researcher, for his insatiable curiosity and multifaceted genius, represents the most perfect model of theRenaissance man (Vinci, Tuscany, 1452 – Amboise, Touraine, 1519). Leonardo da Vinci was the illegitimate son of a Florentine lawyer, who did not allow him to meet his mother, amodest farmer.

Leonardo was trained as an artist in Florence in the workshop of Andrea Verrocchio, but much of his career developed in other Italian cities like Milan(where he remained between 1489 and 1499 under the patronage of Duke Ludovico Sforza, il Moro) or Rome (where he worked for Giulio de ‘Medici). Although the three arts practiced,has not retained any of his sculpture and it seems that none of the buildings he designed was built, as his work as a sculptor and architect are only hints in his lettersand personal sketches.
It is, therefore, the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci which has made him stand out as a top figure in the history of art, because a score of paintingspreserved, among which are La Gioconda or Mona Lisa, The Annunciation, The Virgin of the Rocks, The Last Supper, The Virgin and St. Anne, Adoration of the Magi Portrait ofGeneva Benzi. Compositions are well studied, based on the perfection of drawing and with a certain air of mystery, in which the gradation of color helps to complete the effectof perspective; in them introduced the technique of sfumato, which was to dispense with the contours crisp painting of «Quattrocento» and blur the profiles involving thefigures in a mist feature.
